I went to the RSPB reserve in Somerset Ham Wall. Acres of reed beds and lakes and scrubby woodland with some old established trees too.
Perfect varied habitat for all sorts of birds. I was with 5 friends, one of whom was local so led us for the day.
It was a prefect day, gentle breeze sun came out …… all good.
Several grayling geese in pairs, grazing and preening peacefully.
A great white egret, in breeding plumage with a yellow bill. The bill is black in winter.
We were lucky enough to spot a single male garganey passing through on his way north to breed.
The sun warmed the air and loads of dragonflies filled the air. We were lucky enough to witness literally a skilful of hobbies flying high and catching insects on the wing.
