Great excitement was a brilliant day early morning birding at Blashford Lakes, highlights for me were this long tailed duck, I had never seen one before. Also a lovely view of a firecrest and at the end of the day I joined a Hen Harrier watch in the New Forest, when we were freezing cold at 3.50 pm a male came in to roost, quite far away but we did see the lovely grey back and obvious silhouette.
December 15th Tosca came to visit. sitting in the Acer tree for 10 minutes or so and caught a couple of fish.
I thought it was Oscar but the photograph revealed an orange lower mandible. Males have an all black beak.
